Mission of Hope is initiating a Street Outreach (ASO) program targeting 'At-Risk' youths on the streets on Canterbury/Bankstown and the Auburn area. Our aim is to be a point of intervention to help this target group who are experiencing social and personal issues, in an empathetic, goal-directed, and culturally-appropriate way. We are Insha’Allah wanting to start in Mid-March 2008. Hours of volunteers are initially aimed to be Thursday, Friday, Saturdays from 4pm till late night.
The project will require trained volunteers dressed in uniform to drive AMAL Street Outreach vehicles in these areas and approach at-risk youth to begin conversation with them. You will be required to give appropriate advice and information regarding social, emotional, and personal issues that these youths may be experiencing difficulty with. The role of the AMAL Street Outreach Volunteer will also include making appropriate referrals to other community and mainstream agencies. All training will be provided (2 days during a weekend in February 2008). Competency from training MUST be obtained before approval to be a ASO volunteer.
