The Youth Council of St John Ambulance Australia (N.S.W.) in conjunction with Mission of Hope is working to establish a St John Cadet Division for young Muslim girls and boys within the Canterbury-Bankstown area.
The St John Cadet Programmes focus on teaching first aid, health care, leadership and life skills with fantastic opportunities to meet new people, experience new things and of course⦠have fun!
The St John Cadet Movement is for all young people from 8 to 18 years, with great opportunities for those interested in leadership. It's all about making the most of your time, having fun and meeting new people, all through programmes that will encourage discovery, adventure and learning.
As a St John Cadet, your son or daughter, brother or sister will develop leadership and social skills in a spirit of community service. These are considered an important part of a Cadet's learning experience.
In addition to basic first aid training offered to Cadets the total programme includes fostering leadership and encouraging physical and mental development by promoting public service and the spirit of adventure. Cadets are also encouraged to become proficient in any of 31 activities (Proficiency Badges) which include a variety of subjects such as Aboriginal Studies, Boating and Animal Care and participate in camps, sports and other activities.
St Johns Cadet uniforms have been approved to be re-designed to be culturally appropriate for Muslim females.
The Junior Programme, specifically for 8-11 year olds, offers a unique opportunity for young children to meet, have fun and learn practical skills along the way.
As a St John Junior, the girls and boys will be trained in basic First Aid and safety, in a supervised, fun and caring atmosphere.
You'll have the chance to earn Grade and Interest badges, which are achieved in a variety of including; Cycling, Fire safety, Cookery and Nutrition and Road and Home Safety.
We are a membership based organisation - that means it's something you join, something you belong to and are a part of. We have a growing membership of about 3000 young people in New South Wales.
The programme of a typical Cadet Division includes:
First-aid
Family care
Proficiency badge training
Activities
Camps and excursions
